Google broke precedent this weekend by putting an ad up for the Super Bowl.

To quote the Wall Street Journal: “Google Chief Executive Eric Schmidt hinted on Saturday that something was coming when he tweeted: ‘Can’t wait to watch the Super Bowl tomorrow. Be sure to watch the ads in the 3rd quarter (someone said ‘hell has indeed frozen over’)’

Google does little promoting in places other than Google.

Google Follows KISS philosophy (Keep It Simple Stupid!)

There ad has no actors and not a word is said. Very little was invested in production. And I think it had the most power of any ad for the Super Bowl this year.

A lot can be learned here.

As of 1:21 on February 8, 2010 this has been viewed 1,790,047 times. Let’s see where it goes.

When the Super Bowl was over I went to YouTube to vote for this as my favorite ad (just a hopeless romantic…).

For those as interested in marketing as I am, go to YouTube and search the Super Bowl ads. There are some good ones this year.

Thanks for reading. Comments and feedback are appreciated.

I hope this helps you improve your social media efforts. For those who want to get involved but don’t have the time or the staff to do so, I am available for hire. Please contact me.
